Kausalgia Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

We are preparing for live shows and composing new tracks

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

This time we aimed for more organic, yet powerful, sound. We did not want to make any compromise so we built our own studio to be able to work in peace and preciseness. On previous releases we've had insufficient amount of time or gear and space, and they have ended up sounding different from our visions and the grandeur of the music. This album sounds more like Kausalgia, altough the sound will continue to evolve for the next release.

3.This is the first album to be released since 2012, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

During the whole time we did our work on cycles, sometimes concentrating on the live shows (which we did around 15), sometimes we worked on the new album and sometimes we renovated the studio.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

Human destiny, Hope & Damnation

5.Originally the band was known as 'Hypotermia' what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Kausalgia'?

There was a similar named band in Sweden and we did not want to be confused with them. ”Kausalgia ”was found from the medical dictionary and the meaning of it described our sound pretty accurately.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Howls of Winter II in Estonia. First time outside Finland and the crowd was wild! We deliver the same passion, energy and atmosphere that is heard on the records, but with a bit more edge and a sense of danger.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

Not yet but we are working on it.

8.The new album was released on 'Saarni Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

It is our own label, that we have put a lot of effort on. This way we have the full control of our art and we are able to release more interesting albums from interesting bands in the future.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and dark metal?

So far the feedback has varied from mildly positive to total praising.

10.Are any of the band members also currently involved with any other bands or musical projects?

Aaro Haverinen (Lead guitar): Bloody Heathen
Markus Heinonen (Vocals, Rhythm guitar): Seer of Ages, Satan's Fall, Astral Sleep, Night of Suicide

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We are heading towards more mystic and fateful waters.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

All band members are listening different types of music. For example: rock, metal, classic,al hiphop, and electronic.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

Sports, relaxing, and mental working..

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Check out Kausalgia if you are interested some pieces of atmospheric dark / black metal!
